KAG'S GIANT MEKONG DELTA

Ok it has been one of those weeks in Thailand when you know you should not have eaten that chicken!!
So here I am at home slowly dying when Boonsong calls to say come fishing, well after a few chats we
decided what better place to die from bad chicken than Bung Sam Ran.
Now I have to put in at this point when we go fishing, we go for the big fish, we are not targeting little
20kg fish. We aim for 100kg Giant Mekong Delta Catfish that is the goal at the moment.

Now because I was feeling sick it was decided that Kag would have a go on the big fish, this would be
her first time using the harness and the Shimano TLD25 this is spooled with Berkley Big Game 24kg 50 lbs, it is not a
setup for beginners, this is a custom reel and a custom rod. Designed to take big loading hence we use
stand up fighting gear custom built for fishing the Giant Mekong Delta Catfish at Bung Sam Ran. When this rod comes out people know that we are serious and as far as rods go this one is lucky.

I start to give Kag some words of instruction on how to use Stand-Up Fighting Gear as this style of fishing can
be great if you get it right or it can be just plain hard work if you get it wrong.
Kag worked the set-up great, it was no time at all before she was working the rod to nearly maximum.
Now this can be a scary thing to use if you can’t swim and Kag can't! You tend to get a large fish trying to pull
you in the water, that is why you see Boonsong holding the safety handle on the back of the harness, as Kag
cant swim so with safety being top of the list you can understand. Here is a little video clip of her fight
Giant Mekong Delta Catfish Fight Fishing Bung Sam Ran
After that fight as you can see she was a we bit beat, but she did great for a first time on stand up gear, I can
see Kag getting a lot better very fast and that means some big fish are on the way!

Its a big well done for Kag on landing a 46.35kg 101.97 lbs catfish this would have to be Kiwi Fishing Bangkok's womans record!
