Fisherman’s Paradise gets the “Thumbs” Up for Java Barb World Records!
We had to have a management meeting to finalize a few details at Fisherman’s Paradise Nichada Thani, it was planned that we have a bit of a fish and attempt a Arapaima, but it was raining and by the time we had some lunch and had decided on some changes to the boat and pier also the construction of a Fisherman’s Corner just to add some thing special to fishing at Nichada Thani.
We only had time for a play, as I like to take time to target Big fish, and with only three hours of light left we decided it wasn't enough time to Fish, Fight, Weigh and photograph a Arapaima so we decided to have a attempt at setting that Java Barb World Record a bit higher with Kiwi Fishing Bangkok there to act as witness.
Well would you believe it the fishing God was determined for us to set the record at 2.15 kg with the second fish the same weight! We cant believe that we have landed 2 small fish in two days that were the biggest catches of the day! Now it is our understanding that this would also make a World Record on the Java Barb in a tie position (or would that be a Thai?)
But lets be honest, what would the point be as we are here to push the limit, we don’t want as many world records as we can get, we want the Biggest of that species! You can just look over the side and see 5 kg fish swimming around, it was great to hear the words “look that one is a World Record and that one, that one to, Look at That One, that’s Double the World Record!” and they were right.
Swai Catfish in great condition
We did land a few Swai Catfish and they were in the most fantastic condition! The Fighting Colors were amazing the shape and fin condition were like I have never seen before. The Fighting Color does fade fast, within about 10 seconds so I did not manage to catch it in the photos.
I will be ready on the next one to take a nice close up of the color as it comes out the water as these Swai are in to condition
